My journey to becoming a professional counselor began in Alaska, where I had the privilege of working in a number of mental health settings, including inpatient psychiatric, primary care, and community outpatient clinics. Along the way, my passion for working with individuals who are impacted by trauma grew into a specialization.
Today, my practice is dedicated to treating adults with Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based therapy that taps into the body’s natural information processing system to transform past painful experiences into new more adaptive ways of thinking and feeling. Unresolved trauma, past negative experiences, and even unmet needs as a child can present as many different strategies for survival. A few of the more common struggles that I treat with EMDR therapy are post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety. I believe that every client holds a unique blueprint of life experience when entering the therapy setting, as such it is essential that treatment is tailored in a way that honors and supports the whole person. This may include the use of somatic-based interventions, ego state therapies, attachment-based resourcing, and internal parts work to help foster growth and treatment progress. I find the most joy in coming alongside clients on their journey as we notice the experiences that shape us with courage, compassion and curiosity.
When I’m not at the office, I enjoy spending time with family and friends exploring the beautiful state of Maine. I also spend vast amounts of time at the barn with my furry co-therapist who teaches me how to be in the present moment and always stop to smell the fresh grass.
